THIS IS A REALLY OLD EXEMPLAR BUT THE LATEST ONE I COULD FIND!!
Taken directly from NZQA - please read and look at each numbered picture associated with what they are talking about in regards to each picture below:
This student has presented a consistent application of the particular design conventions associated with each activity. This shows purposeful use of the particular characteristics and constraints of each approach, for example, the treatment of text as image (1) (2), and the use of font size and placement to reinforce a message (3).
The initial exploratory works (4) reveal sound exploration of the use of typographic conventions to enhance the content of each phrase. These include the use of font selection, weighting, size, colour, placement, and digital effects.
The success of the ‘Daydreaming and Futility’ design (7) shows a critical selection of these conventions to support the ‘leisurely relaxed’ theme. The typographic features are further enhanced by the intelligent decisions of restrained colour and visual simplicity.
For a more secure Excellence, the student could ensure that all evidence demonstrates more consistent depth of critical selection and technical application. For example, the ‘Tulips’ (5) and ‘Skittles’ (6) outcomes could have a stronger connection between visual style and the meaning of the words.
Further consideration of impact and legibility for the word ‘futility’ (7) may strengthen this outcome in terms of the conventions of book cover design.
